What is Restorative Yoga?
Restorative Yoga is the use of props to create simple poses/asanas of ease and comfort that helps to calm the mind, balance the nervous system, and relax the body.
How does a class go?
Restorative Yoga sessions allow the body to slow down and relax in a small number of asanas/postures. Each asana is held for longer than in conventional yoga classes, from five to twenty minutes. A session may consist of only four to six asanas and the class could be from 60 to 90 minutes. Some benefits may be:
- alleviate lower back pain
- combat fatigue and reduce stress
- reduces depression & anxiety
- relaxation after a Vinyasa or any other sport practice
Classes are necessarily small or individual so that each person can receive detailed attention to ensure they are safe and properly supported.
Do I need special props?
Yes, the use of props is a must. You don’t need to invest in special props as almost everything you will need for a restorative session can be found at home like: blankets or towels, pillows, strap or ties, blocks that can be substituted by books, a chair, a wall.
Who can practice Restorative Yoga?
This practice is for people of all ages, no matter if you are new to yoga or a practitioner.
